Levels of EMT

* Emergency Medical Technician – Basic (EMT-B)
* Cardiac Rescue Technician (CRT) (new CRT licenses are no longer being issued to os however analogous to NREMT-I)
* Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic

National Registry State



  • At least 18 years old (or 16 with First Responder certification and written permission from a parent/legal guardian

Length of License

EMT-B: 3 years
CRT: 2 years
EMT-P: 2 years

License Maintenance Requirements

One must complete the required continuing education OR have NREMT certification (for EMT-B.) EMT-P and CRT with National Registry must maintain NREMT certification in addition to the continuing education requirements.

Continuing Education Requirements by Level

Total Hours:
EMT-B: 24 hours
CRT: 40 hours
EMT-P: 48 hours

Demonstrate you have an EMS license from another state OR NREMT certification
